Student Activities Celebrating Dia de los Muertos The 1st and 2nd November brought the 'Day of the Dead' celebrations to Ecuador. It's a time of year when family and friends gather together to pray and remember loved ones who have died. One of the traditions .........jjjjjjjjjjjj..... during this festival is to eat 'guagua de pan', a type of bread, shaped and decorated in the form of a small child. It's usually accompanied by 'colada morada', a juice made of black corn flour and fruits such as pineapple, strawberries, blackberries and blueberries. We thought it would be fun to set our students the task of making this typical Ecuadorian fare and brought in an expert to help - our friend Katy who has been making guagua bread professionally for years! Over 20 students got rolling and decorating and at the end we enjoyed a mini- feast! "It was so much fun learning how to make the guagua de pan - I felt really involved in the festivities. The school is great at planning relevant extra activities which means we get a real insight into local culture". Yonseili Flores, New Mexico.
